This year's harvest began on Monday and will continue for the next two or three weeks depending on weather and a myriad of other factors. It is an exciting time after having worked in the vineyards all year to see (taste) first results of that work in the wine cellar.
Grape harvest time, called "Weinlese" here in Germany, is also a time of year many people travel to Franken to enjoy mostly dry, white wines in their natural habitat. Of course you can drink wine all year long but there seems to be something magical about tasting wines while the grapes are visibly ripening on the vines.
What a great time of year!
